Zach Cohen grew up in Trumbull CT and attended the University of Connecticut where he graduated with a BS in Accounting. After college, Zach spent two years working grueling long hours in public accounting before a natural disaster changed the course of his life. In the fall of 2012, after Hurricane Sandy devastated the NY Metropolitan area, his brother Josh (founder and CEO of The Junkluggers) asked for Zach's help with his NYC territory, which was inundated with clean-up work from the storm. Realizing the huge opportunity he had to be a multi-business owner and give back to his community, Zach worked hard to pull together the financing and licensing he needed to become a Junkluggers franchise partner, and in July of 2013 became the owner of The Junkluggers of Manhattan and Brooklyn.
He was still working long hours, but now he had the freedom to choose where his time was spent and to see the enormous impact his work had on his community and the environment. Surrounded by co-workers who love their jobs and are just as motivated as he is to keep as much reusable waste as possible from landfills is an amazing feeling, and the connections he has made have been invaluable. "It's been a huge impact in my life and everyday I'm fortunate enough to experience hundreds of organizations and not-for-profits who benefit from our eco-friendly initiative of giving our "junk" a second home", says Zach. But it's not all work and no play for Zach. When not saving the world one piece of junk at a time, he enjoys running, lifting, swimming, yoga & jiu jitsu, as well as spending time with his dog Cooper somewhere in the woods in Connecticut.
