What should an office clear out before the end of the year?
Updated: November 6, 2026
Before year-end, it is helpful to clear out any broken furniture, outdated electronics, or old supplies that might interfere with an upcoming move, renovation, or new office layout. As you sort, just make sure to keep records and devices containing sensitive data separate so they can be properly destroyed or recycled rather than thrown out with ordinary junk.
Office clutter tends to slowly accumulate. Replacement chairs get pushed into storage rooms. Old monitors stay in closets after technology upgrades. Filing cabinets stay in place even when the records have been digitized or moved. By the end of the year, valuable workspace can be occupied by nothing more than things no one uses.
If this is the situation you find yourself in, it helps to start with the largest items. Walk through offices, conference rooms, storage areas, and shared spaces and identify desks, chairs, shelving, cabinets, tables, and other furniture that no longer serves a purpose. Then look at electronics, outdated equipment, marketing displays, packaging, and accumulated supplies. These are the items that, once cleared, free up the most space.
Sensitive materials need to be disposed of with care, and that includes anything with a hard drive and paper records alike. If it has personal or business information on it, then it can’t be treated like ordinary junk. Set them aside so they can be routed through the appropriate secure destruction or electronics-recycling process.
Once you know for sure what you plan to keep, a commercial junk removal crew can come in and handle the heavy work. The Junkluggers can remove unwanted office furniture and other non-hazardous contents, then sort collected material for donation and recycling where possible.
