How do you clear out a gym or fitness studio when it replaces equipment?

You can sell or trade in the machines that still work and ask whether the new equipment dealer will haul the old gear as part of the deal. But if that doesn’t work, your next best bet is to hire a commercial crew like The Junkluggers for whatever is broken or left over.

Getting rid of an old treadmill can feel a lot like being on a treadmill. It’s hard work, and it feels like you don’t get anywhere. The same is true for cable towers, plate-loaded racks, big cardio machines, and just about anything that belongs in a gym. There are ways to do it, though.

Working machines are worth selling or trading in first. If you are buying new equipment, ask whether haul-away of old equipment is part of the deal. When that’s not possible, such as for broken or obsolete pieces, a commercial crew can help instead. They’re able to disassemble them and carry them out. Taking machines apart is billed at an hourly rate and quoted upfront. That way, you won’t have to look out for any billing surprises.

Old gear doesn't have to be scrapped whole, either. Usable machines can very often be donated to a nonprofit that can take them, and the metal can be recycled when donation doesn’t pan out. When we donate on your behalf, you may get a tax-deductible donation receipt within 14 business days for accepted items (not everything qualifies, and it varies by location). Items are sent to the landfill only as a last resort. Everything else is rehomed or otherwise put to good use.
