Who Can Remove Big Backyard Objects in Franklin?

Backyards can accumulate some surprisingly large things given enough time. Wooden playsets are great for kids, but once the kids are teenagers, they don’t have much use. Basketball goals can be left up until they rust and patio furniture sometimes finds itself on the porch for too many winters. An old hot tub can seem impossible to get rid of once it stops working. Or you might have a shed that has reached the end of its life.

Large backyard objects may qualify for Franklin's specialty collection, self-haul, resale, or professional junk removal depending on what the item is and whether it needs to be dismantled. But no matter what, one thing’s for sure: you can’t just put these in the trash. So the questions then are: how big are the items, how much do they weigh, and can they leave the yard in one piece?

Check Franklin's Bulky and Specialty Item Options First

The City of Franklin provides collections for ordinary bulky household items and has separate rules for some outdoor objects. Wooden playsets, playground equipment, patio furniture, basketball goals, and fencing fall into the city's specialty-item category. Other outdoor objects may need to be taken to a convenience center or landfill instead.

This is a wonderful community program and if you have just one object that needs to go, it can work well. But there are limits. One is that any items you want to offload need to meet the city’s requirements. Depending on what it is, you might also need to prepare or position it for collection. That’s very hard to do with a large structure still assembled in the backyard.

A Playset Usually Has to Come Apart Before It Goes Anywhere

Playsets look manageable until you try to move one. Even a modest wooden set comes along with towers, swings, slides, ladders, hardware, and anchored supports. That adds up. It was also likely assembled in the backyard, so it has to leave the same way: in pieces.

If the set is still safe and in good condition, giving it away may be an option. But be clear about who is responsible for dismantling and transportation. Many free playset listings stall because the person who wants the set does not have the tools, trailer, or help to move it.

If the wood is rotted or the structure is unsafe, your best bet is almost certainly outright removal.

Old Hot Tubs Are Their Own Kind of Problem

Even when empty, hot tubs often weigh hundreds of pounds. If it can’t go through the gate, that’s tricky too because it will need to be cut into sections before the pieces can be carried out.

The tub should be drained and safely disconnected before removal begins. A working spa may have some resale value if a buyer is willing to handle the move. But if it’s cracked or dead, that’s very unlikely.

The Junkluggers of Nashville handles large outdoor objects including hot tubs and can discuss any required teardown during the estimate.

Sheds & Other Structures Likely Need Disassembly

Old sheds often need to be broken down. And that means dealing with a lot of lumber, roofing, hardware, shelving, and sometimes concrete footings or even a slab. That involves a lot of labor and dense debris.

The Junkluggers can break down objects that cannot be removed whole, but substantial deconstruction is additional labor that should be agreed upon during the estimate. Concrete, brick, masonry, tile, and similar dense materials are also handled differently because truck weight becomes the limiting factor. If you plan on taking down a shed, mention this upfront so any quote you see accounts for all the work.

Patio Furniture and Smaller Outdoor Pieces Are Easier

Patio tables, chairs, umbrellas, and grills are certainly easier to deal with than sheds or playsets. But they’re still big. If they work, selling or giving them away is worth trying.

If you have a lot of pieces that need to go at once, though, full-service removal is often the easiest way. You can save a lot of effort by having the crew collect items from the yard for you. That’s easier than taking it all to the curb.

What Happens After the Backyard Is Cleared?

The Junkluggers sorts the material it collects whenever possible. Usable outdoor furniture or equipment may have a donation or rehoming route. Metal and other recyclable materials can be separated. Worn or damaged material that cannot be reused is disposed of responsibly.

In short, if it can be kept out of the landfill, The Junkluggers works to keep it out of the landfill.
