What to Do With Old Items When You Renovate

Renovations are huge projects. One of the reasons they are such huge projects is because they create a lot of waste. The debris is obvious and you can see that the moment you start pulling out carpet or tile. But also part of the process is pulling out old furniture, fixtures, office supplies, inventory, or more. And much of that can find a new life somewhere in Preston Hollow and the surrounding community.

Sorting Rehomeable & Debris Piles

When you renovate a home, you’ll no doubt pull out furniture, light fixtures, cabinets, and appliances, among other things. A lot of that still has value and somebody probably wants it. For businesses, it’s the same story. Office furniture and supplies would look great in the space of local nonprofits. Either way, items you don’t need any longer don’t necessarily have to see the landfill up close.

The other pile, of course, is true waste. A lot of construction and demolition debris can’t go anywhere else. That’s true for drywall scraps and torn-out flooring. A lot of used packaging is the same way. And all of this tends to pile up fast during a project. Much of it can be recycled, but donation is out of the question.

When you work with The Junkluggers, we sort every load for you. You won’t have to think about what happens next after the items leave your space. You can simply know that they will be helping someone else whenever possible.

Practical Advice on Renovation Cleanups

A little timing helps a lot when it comes to cleaning out after a renovation. For re-homeable items, it’s often best to clear them before demolition starts. The old furniture and fixtures can be moved so they’re not in the way of the crew when they come by to pick up items. Plus, these can go straight to donation without risking them being harmed or accidentally picked up with the renovation waste.

As for the debris, it’s smart to have pickups done between messy stages. That helps keep the worksite clear as you move from one part of the project to another. For bigger projects, you might schedule more than one visit. You first clear the rehomeable pile upfront and then you have another one done to haul debris at the end.

Hire One Crew for Your Whole Renovation Cleanup

The Junkluggers of Greater Dallas can help you clear out after your renovation. We can take re-homable furniture and goods and route them to donation, and we haul the leftover debris and recycle what we can. When we donate on your behalf, you may receive a tax-deductible donation receipt within 14 business days for accepted items. And if there’s something we can’t take, like hazardous materials, we’ll tell you upfront and give you advice on where to turn to next.

Every project is quoted upfront, on-site. You’ll have a binding written estimate in hand. If you approve, then work can begin right then and there. It’s based on how much space the items will take on the truck and if your items pack down smaller than expected, the price might even be lower than what’s on the paper. But it will never be higher.
