A news segment on the fiscal cliff was the first piece of the business puzzle for Mike and Jack Schmidt.

The last piece came last month, when the brothers opened the first Pennsylvania office of The Junkluggers, a household junk removal franchise that tries to donate and recycle the items it collects before hauling the remnants to a landfill.

“I have to tell you, it just felt right,” said Mike Schmidt, 49, of Evesham, Burlington County. “The purpose of the company, the mission, the business model, the opportunity in the Philadelphia area … it came together, almost like we were putting a puzzle together.”
