The Junkluggers Do Last Minute DIY Holiday Gifts!
With the holidays (and all of the associated parties) looming we are probably all bound to leave some of the gift-giving to the last minute. The here at the Junkluggers we lean towards giving gifts that are fun but also useful – no need to clutter up the house with gag gifts that serve no real purpose! Here are our suggestions for DIY Last Minute Gifts to alleviate your Holiday gifting woes:
Winter Survival Kit. Up here in the Great White North we deal with a lot of below freezing temperatures, wind, rain, and tons of snow. Put together a small kit in a little basket, or even a Rubbermaid container with some of our suggested items (most of which you probably have lying around) to help survive the brutal cold.
- Small bottle of Lotion or chap-stick
- (New) Warm Fuzzy socks
- Hot Cocoa packets (maybe a couple airplane sized bottles of whiskey to add to the hot cocoa…)
- Can of soup
- Hand Sanitizer
- Favorite Winter DVD
Dinner in a box. If you’re going to a party and need to bring a host gift you can always bring something for them to use or eat later. Our suggestion is to bring a dinner box including:
- Dried Pasta
- Pasta Sauce
- Bottle of wine
- Kitchen Towel
- Spices of your choice
- Nice card
This would also make a fantastic gift for new parents, or even the college students in your life.
Personalized Gift Certificates. Utilize one of your many talents or skills and make gift certificates (coupons are so 2013) offering your services. Are you super great at organizing, cooking, taking care of kids, doing home repairs or even going out on the town with? Make a gift certificate for those close to you for organizing their closet/kitchen (a personal favorite of ours here at the Junkluggers), babysitting, painting a room, or cooking dinner. This is an inexpensive way to show those around you that you care and wish to contribute to their lives!
Bottle of spirits. Most people have a bottle or two of wine in their house, so just slap a bow on that bad boy and you’ve got yourself an inexpensive gift. Another fun variation on this is to get a bunch of little airplane bottles (varying flavors of course) and stick them in a stocking or tissue paper filled gift bag.
Picture in a frame. If you’ve got a photo printer and a frame you don’t need lying around, you’ve got the ingredients to make a fantastic last minute gift. Just make sure you’ve got a fun photo to print out!
Flowers. Flowers are such an easy grab and go gift, they bring joy, don’t break the bank and come pre-wrapped! Consider buying a potted flower that will stick around a bit longer than cut flowers.
Re-Gift. So this isn’t our favorite idea, but desperate times call for extreme measures and we’ve all gotten too many gift baskets and scented candles to be able to use them all. You can just take one of those gifts, re-package it festively and voila, instant gift! We advise you check expiration dates, and make sure you don’t re-gift to the person who gave you the gift.
We hope that some of these suggestions help you find a last minute gift, save some money and brighten up your holiday season!
